GLC was a commercial agribusiness initiative which commenced in October 2004, providing integrated solution to BEE, jobs and skill development.
The project entailed a sustainable highly technological agriculture business located close to the Wonderkop community and complied with requirements of British Retail Consortium.
An investment of $5 Mn was committed for the first three years and the first crop was harvested in June 2005. Dedicated local and export market orders were secured for all the products. The project started with 106 GLC members & Historically disadvantaged employees with a commitment of Equity of 40% in the business after 2 years. The project had a target of providing 1,200 jobs.
