Kalahari Kid Corporation (KKC) was proposed by Gil Arbel and Judith Weidemann (who is still a Director at KKC) to Northern Cape Provincial Government for assisting the emerging farmers in the Northern Cape.
About Project
The Kalahari Kid Corporation (KKC), a project of Northern Cape Provincial Government (NPCG) aims to bring about change in the way consumers perceive goat products. As part of the Asgi-SA National Livestock Project and livestock improvement programme, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of South Africa facilitated and invested R15.4 million in the project.
Job creation
As a result, 54 new annualized job opportunities will be created with KKC. A further 300 additional jobs were envisaged within the 100 cooperatives.
Support
The NPCG to provide cooperatives members with extensive support such as accredited training in technical skills, financial and business management, export readiness, veterinary services and life skills.
Rural development impact
The project is expected to have significant developmental impact in rural areas of Norther Cape. Profits generated from Goat products are shared with the primary producers. It was expected that around 100 cooperatives will be established to become the main feeders to the company and more than 2,000 farmers were also expected to benefit.
